Taylor Swift's 'Safe & Sound' music video an eerie hit

Taylor Swift's 'Safe & Sound' is the first video from the soundtrack to the movie Hunger Games. The soundtrack is available now, the movie opens March 23. 'Safe & Sound' also features The Civil Wars.

Filming the video wasn't exactly all fun for Swift, as she told MTV "It was so cold. It was freezing. I was shaking the whole time and trying not to be shaking when the cameras were rolling. It was about 40 degrees in Nashville." Making the video gave her chills, watching it may give viewers chills.

The lyrics to 'Safe & Sound' are about some sort of danger lurking in the dark. It has an eerie tone which the video tries to match. We see her walking through the woods alone, in a cemetery, and in a rundown looking cabin. She never makes direct eye contact with the camera, she's always looking past it. It's as if there's something out there we're not allowed to see, something is lurking in the woods. The song builds up in the second half, it feels like something is going to happen, but nothing is ever revealed.

It's a change of pace for Swift as her videos are usually more upbeat. Even when she had a song called 'Mean' it was done in the most charming way imaginable. The only video that comes close to this in tone is 'Back to December.' The difference is we know why she's so somber in that one. In 'Safe & Sound' the reason for her mood is a mystery. It gives the video an ominous vibe which works well.
