Tasty Tuesdays: 4food

This place is awesome. They've seriously elevated the Chipotle concept of building your own unique meal within a given category.

4food seems like it just offers burgers, rice bowls and salad bowls, but that's far from the truth, because at 4food the definition of a 'burger' is interpreted in insanely exciting and delicious new ways.

Like at Chipotle, you build your 4food meal step by step. When orderding a (W)holeburger  you start with a 'bun,' but here 'bun' doesn't even necessarily mean bread. You can enjoy your patty between two slabs of 'pressed rice.' The patties are also not what American diners traditionally associate with the concept of a burger, because 4food's patties are made from the standard beef, turkey and veggie, but you can also enjoy a burger made from lamb, salmon and even baked egg. Perhaps the most bizarre characteristic of 4food's patties is that they look like donuts. Yup. 4food's patties have holes in the middle. Why? To leave ample room for the best part: the Scoops.

Scoops are a topping lover's dream. Add a scoop of more familiar bugrer toppings like mushrooms and peppers, or go for avocado and mango, thai eggplant, or even mac and cheese. Next, add cheese (including gourmet options like my personal favorite, Manchego) and condiments (including pesto, cranberry sauce, hummus or chutney).

Of course they also serve tasty rices, potatoes and a garden salad as sides. Another thing to love about 4food is that you can order any Scoop as a mini snack sized side if you're not ravenous enough for a super burger. If you're one who's overwhelmed by the infinity of choice offered by 4food, spring for one of their pre-built options listed on their ever-evolving menu board.

Yet another revolutionary yet simple attribute to love about 4food is that personalized nutrition facts print on every receipt. Why has no one ever done that before? As they type your order into the computer it draws from the database to generate nutrition facts as unique and tailored as your meal.

On your receipt you'll also find a wireless password to use one of the six ipads they have set up at a communal dining bench. Genius. 4food is the kind of place you can eat at 3 days a week and feel like you're dining somewhere different each time.

Give your Midtown lunch/dinner/snack routine a serious revamp with 4food's diverse menu of (mostly...) locally sourced ingredients. Rethink what it means to eat 'a burger and fries' or 'just another salad.' 4food is as much an experience as it is a meal. Rethink what you eat. And recycle your refuse in their clearly marked receptacles.
