Voted number one in Vegas, for margaritas; Canonita was quite the dining experience. I can think of several more reasons they would be number one by the menu selections I tried during my visit to the city Friday,September 13th 2013.
Located beside the graceful Grand Canal in The Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino Las Vegas, Cañonita takes the flavors of Old Mexico and serves them with an exciting, New American ambiance. Experience true "south of the border" taste and tradition with authentic Mexican offerings like hand-made corn tortillas, Chile rellenos, and tacos al carbon and smoked chicken quesadillas.
For 14years the Santa Rosa Pork Barbaco has held it's signature spot on the menu as the most popular and highly requested item. Our chef for the evening explained that it’s the one thing they can never take off the menu due to its popularity. I was enticed to try. I had to taste for myself, what the hype was about and let's just say I'm still salivating. This was just one of many exquisite items that graced my pallet.
As one dish left another one arrived- the next to try were the Pork Empanadas: Toasted Walnuts, Dried Fruits, Queso Fresco, Chipotle Barbeque Sauce followed by mouthwatering Roasted Mussels & Shrimp Skillet; Tequila, Pasilla Oaxaca, Mexican Chorizo. For some one who has never eaten a mussel, I realized I have been depriving myself of something so heavenly delish! And then there came theChiapaneco Citrus Glazed Salmon: tamarind orange glazed salmon, orange habanero salsa, sweet potato hash.
To wash it all down, I sampled a Raspberry Mojito and a Watermelon Mojito. These were not just the regular Mojitos. The difference I could taste was the fresh fruit and lime that, General Manager Annaliza, explained is squeezed daily. Once those found there place amidst the food in my belly- there was room to rate the margaritas. A title well deserved as number one in town. 3 margaritas: Canonita (patron silver, grand marnier & fresh sour mix), Pineapple Infused Margarita (fresh pineapples, Tahitian vanilla beans, silver tequila) and Jalapeño Infused Margarita (fresh Jalapeño, fresh oranges, silver tequila, fresh sour mix & hint of muddled cilantro).
For dessert, I was able to sample their Tres Leches, Ancho Chocolate Brownie, complimented by the La Crema 1921 with homemade horchata & a sprinkle of cinnamon. The alluring presentations of all the selections were admirable. The service was unmatched.
Special Thanks to Annaliza Mickenny, General Manager; for rolling out the red carpet, delivering 5-star service and making this day great! Thanks to Sara Barker, Public Relations Tavistock Restaurants | FREEBIRDS World Burrito; for making it all happen. It was a pleasure to visit the restaurant for the first time and walk away with a sweet taste in my mouth. I spent about 3 hours there, because the environment was warm, welcoming and very inviting. I truly enjoyed it.
