Detroit has a hot new breakfast spot, and its location might surprise you. Located inside the city’s premier downtown entertainment destination, TAP at MGM Grand Detroit began serving breakfast last week.
From classic to down home comfort, TAP at MGM Grand boasts a menu of scratch made dishes, created exclusively for Detroit diners. Choices include everything from buttermilk blueberry pancakes to biscuits with sausage gravy, egg white omelets and fruit plates, to super hearty skillet meals.
I tried the Southwest Skillet—a flavorful combination of chorizo sausage and scrambled eggs, layered over black beans and hash browns, topped with a homemade salsa. Served up with warm flour tortillas, this dish presented layers of flavors with just enough heat.
Other skillet options include the “TAP Skillet” with poached eggs, asparagus tips, cheddar, buttermilk biscuits and housemade sausage gravy, over hash browns; the “Philly Steak and Cheese” with fried eggs, shaved ribeye, swiss, onions, green and red peppers, over hash browns; and the “Grilled Vegetable” featuring fried eggs, asparagus tips, caramelized onions, sweet peppers, squash, marinated tomatoes and hash browns. Have one of these for breakfast, and you might find yourself skipping lunch.
I also sampled a plate of blueberry buttermilk pancakes. Cooked to perfection, the inside was fluffy and full of blueberries, while the outside had just a hint of crispiness.
Other popular options include French toast, corned beef hash, “create your own” omelets, and a fried egg sandwich with choice of meat on a croissant.
TAP at MGM Grand Detroit serves up breakfast 7 – 11 a.m. daily. And a great thing about TAP is that kids are welcome. Hotel guests and the public can bring their kids and not worry about walking through the casino, as the restaurant is situated right off the hotel lobby.
The menu at TAP at MGM Grand Detroit, customized exclusively for our city, rotates every three months, so there’s always something new. Popular dishes include starters like Buffalo chicken wings and fried calamari, short rib chili, wood oven pizzas and half-pound burgers with a variety of creative toppings. Threre’s also fish tacos, fish and chips, steaks and chicken.
A sports pub at heart, TAP at MGM Grand Detroit offers a selection of 50 craft beers, with several Michigan made favorites, and the opportunity to watch the big game on your choice of more than 40 HD flat screen TVs. The 9,500 square-foot restaurant, which was created by the team at MGM Grand Detroit, celebrates Detroit’s sports history with a collection of memorabilia from the archives of Lindell AC sports bar.
