The three-man cast of “Driving Miss Daisy” enthralled the audience that came to the second night of the performance at the Alhambra Theater and Dining in Jacksonville Florida. If you’ve never seen the movie, the Alhambra tells a compelling story. If you have seen the movie or another stage production, then you will be thoroughly entertained by the shorter scenes and well-reminiscent lines. The scenes are so compact that they move along effortlessly.
What a surprise to have First Coast News anchorman Phil Amato from ABC TV’s WTLV12/WJXX25 visiting for candid interviews on his upcoming series on historic landmarks. Check back here for a “Video” focused on the Alhambra. It will air on Friday, February 15 between 5-5:30am and once again at 7pm.
The show opens with the sound effects of the 72 year young Miss Daisy driving into a pool; that’s where her problems began. It was wonderful how two stools on the stage could resemble a 4 door car. Ms Michael Learned (Miss Daisy) sounded just as feisty & high-spirited as Jessica Tandy. Mr. Lance E. Nichols (Hoke) sounded as authentic as Morgan Freeman did in the original creation. Michael Edward Hodge (Boolie) was as captivating as Dan Aykroid. All 3 actors had chuckles emanating from the entire audience.
During the entire performance, each actor did their own makeup that transformed themselves into their characters golden years. Kudos to Kelsey, Ms Learned’s assistant for getting the actress back on stage without missing a beat.
There is a new face meeting and greeting the guests of the Alhambra and you’ll be pleasantly appreciative of the hospitality that John Hoffman, Director of Food and Beverages, gives as he meanders around the room.
Chef DeJuan Roy outdid himself once again. The meal was great and you’ll be able to see what’s in store for you (check out the Slide Show) when you purchase your tickets. Don’t forget, this would make a great Valentine’s Day present for you and your sweetie.

Show Times: 8:00 p.m. for evening shows Tuesday through Sunday. Doors open at 5:45 p.m., and dinner will be served until 7:30 p.m. Matinees on Saturday are at 1:15 p.m. Doors open at 11:00 a.m. and the brunch starts at 11:15 a.m. Sunday matinee is at 2:00 p.m. Doors open at noon and the meal starts at 12:15 p.m. The Alhambra’s dinner service will be plated and served to your table.
