Sadly the title 'No Mediocre' proves a tad ironic as this song doesn't quite measure up to his past work. He spends the bulk of the video surrounded by scantly clad women while he raps about how great he is and how he deserves nothing but the best when it comes to women. Basically a paint by numbers theme in hip hop. Make sure your hair is done, he wants nothing to do with you if your hair isn't done. The big ego, look how many girls I have, sipping champagne in the suite, has been done a million times before. T.I. is far from the first artist to rely on the cliches, likely far from the last, he just happens to be the one who made this video.
Midway through the song we get Iggy Azalea's verse, if nothing else it helps breakup the monotony of the rest of the song. Azalea is fine in her role but it's not enough to save the song as a whole.
Filmed by Director X, the music video was shot in Brazil. Perhaps inspired by the world Cup currently taking place there the video includes a soccer scene, though the uniforms of the female players are far from regulation.
Azealia Banks got some attention for herself with her comments about the track. She used the song's title to take a cheap shot at T.I.'s wife. While T.I's response through TMZ may not have been the most mature way to word things, you can understand a man being upset with someone trash talking his wife.
In the end there's a decent verse from the rapping Australian beauty, some lovely shots of the Brazilian scenery, and a lot of attractive women (did you really think he'd put any mediocre ones in there?). It's certainly not T.I.'s best effort but it is still worth checking out at least once.
