Syfy's special effects reality TV show is back for a new season of latex prosthetics, makeup and creature challenges. In Face Off's Season 4 premiere, 'Make It Reign,' a new cast of special effects pros are given the task of creating a goblin king. Each of the teams must make their king based on whatever region he reigns over (arctic, volcanic, desert, etc.)
Season 4 promises to perhaps have the least dysfunctional cast than past Face Off seasons. Most of the reality show's team seem to work well with each other and are mostly adept at whipping together a monster in record time.
Overall the goblin king creations were strong. Jena and Erica F. won the judges' praise for their emaciated Desert Goblin, complete with a skull crown and cracked, dry skin. Eric Z. and Autumn also created a great Jungle Goblin with a carved wood-like face.
Anthony and Meagan won the challenge, however, with their creepy and detailed Mountain Goblin where one side of the face was more human. The rocky backside also was equally impressive.
Anthony was doubly blessed in the premiere with winning not just the goblin king challenge, but the spotlight challenge. Anthony created a blue alien with a bunny snout for the spotlight on designing a queen based on her crown.
Perhaps the biggest disappointment of the night was Michael and Troy's Volcano Goblin. The pointy crown was reminiscent of an enormous dunce cap, not a volcanic cone. The poor paint job on the Volcano Goblin sent Troy home this week.
