Now that I have personally experienced the latest SWTOR update, I can inform everyone about what’s going on. First, I can confirm that there is no need to go to the PvP area to complete anything for PvE. There are separate PvE and PvP quests. The PvP quests are marked as such and are in the free-for-all PvP area. The rewards for these quests are warzone commendations and usable items that increase Gree reputation. While it is true that doing these quests will get you extra rep for the Gree Enclave, it is not required. The PvE quests will give you the same usable items as well as PvE daily commendations.
Another feature that was added is Galactic Reputation. As stated earlier, the Gree event will give you items to increase your Gree Enclave reputation. There are also other factions, however, that you can raise reputation with. These include Republic 5th assault battalion, raised by Section X dailies, Republic Hyperspace Armada, raised by doing heroic space mission, and the Voss, raised by doing heroic missions on Voss. The Gree Enclave and Voss reputations are the same for both Republic and Empire. The Empire has equivalent factions for Section X and heroic space missions. The best part about the reputation system is that it is shared for your legacy, meaning that any reputation you get on any of your characters applies to the reputation level as a whole. The heroic space missions and Section X dailies will only give you reputation for that particular faction though.
The Gree event will last for two weeks and gives legacy equips rewards. Once you reach Newcomer reputation status, you can buy an item that gives you access to the ship, Gray Secant, as well as additional reputation missions for the Gree. This ship has an operation boss that requires a full operation team to defeat. Some players might be upset or complain about needing reputation to fight the new boss, but it will not take long. From my experience, I received around 2800 reputation for completing all the dailies, including the PvP dailies, on one character. The first level of Outsider requires 2500 and the second level of Newcomer requires 5000, so at most it should take you three days to reach Newcomer status to gain access to the ship. Since all reputation for the Gree is shared throughout all characters in your legacy, players with at least three characters that do the Gree dailies should be able to access the boss on the first day. There is a weekly cap for reputation, but it is far beyond the amount needed to reach Newcomer. Enemies in the daily area also have a chance to drop reputation gain items, so you can raise it that way as well.
Overall, I think this game update and the Gree event will be a success. It adds more open world PvP to Ilum, legacy equips, and a new operation boss. The best part is that players are not forced to PvP if they do not want to and they can still have access to all parts of the event. If Bioware continues to improve upon future updates like they have for this one, the game will continue to improve and bring in more players. I would say this update is an excellent one.
