Swim A Poolooza 2013 is officially in the books! Team Tri Smart, home of the Tri Smart Masters holds this swim endurance challenge once a year. The idea is that the clock "buzzes" every 100 seconds (or 1:40). In that time, swimmers can swim 100, 75 or 50 yards. They do this a total of TEN TIMES to give them 10,000, 7,500 or 5,000 yards of swimming respectively.
Tri Smart Coaching calls it a "party in the pool." The swimmers are met on event morning with a table full of fluids and fuel for the event, lanes assigned based on the distances per interval, and a long playlist of blood-pumping music! There are volunteers circulating throughout the event to make sure each swimmer is fueling and drinking without leaving the pool. After 50, the group takes a quick break, dries off and gathers for the annual group photo (shown).
"It is very well organized and WAY more fun than I ever expected," says J. Hossack, first time Swim A Poolooza participant.
