The Bitter Bar is an American cocktail and dessert lounge in downtown Boulder with a cozy, relaxed vibe. The intimate space is filled with dim lighting, comfy couches, and funky art; and on Thursdays, the small space fills with live music.
The Bitter Bar may have a small dessert menu of only three options, but what makes them so special is their unique, fun choices and the fact that every piece of the dessert is made in house. The S’mores is made of cinnamon graham crackers, toasted vanilla bean marshmallow, and agostoni organic milk chocolate. Each component of this dessert is just perfect. The graham cracker is absolutely incredible. It is Crunchy, yet soft, with a delightful taste of cinnamon. The marshmallow is truly something special too. It is toasted on the outside, warm and gooey on the inside, yet still firm. The size is wonderful, as well. It is the perfect size if you just want a little something sweet after dinner or with a cocktail.
The dulce de leche brownie is quite the brownie. A huge square of dense, rich brownie is served with a dollop of Chantilly cream and candied blood orange slices. This dessert is for the ultimate chocolate lover. Finishing the huge brownie would be quite the feat, so come hungry or with a friend. It is rich, chocolaty, and in no way a “cakey” brownie. The candied blood oranges are a great addition, helping to cut the sweetness with their tart and bitter flavor. The little dollop of Chantilly cream brought the plate to perfection by adding some lightness.
The Bitter Bar is such a gem. A beautiful bar serving great drinks, food, music, and sweets. What could be better than that?
