It would have not been the same if a Friday the 13th passed with no horror movie discussion or marathon with members of the Serial Thrillerz.
With everyone scattered about, busy with work and school members chose their own viewing or in my case I had a stack that of new purchases (and an old favorite) of which to choose.
I am very hard on remakes and even in response to my list Marcey of supermarcey.com suggested I watch the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, an all time favorite of mine. She gets my reluctance on remakes.
I was pleasantly surprised to see how Tobe Hooper's original footage was used as the opening scenes and how the credits paid tribute to Gunnar Hansen & Tobe Hooper.
The events unfold more like a direct sequel to the original with Gunnar playing a member of the redneck family wishing to turn Leatherface in.
Unfortunately this reads more like a fan fiction or an attempt to erase the several sequels before.
A good thing in the minds of many fans because many of the sequels were an attempt to capitalize on the success of the original.
However despite the initial hesitations this was surprisingly good with a decent take on the sequel versus remake debate. It makes you sympathize somewhat for Leatherface even though he does slaughter Sally's brother and friends. It gives another view of how the rest of the family felt when a handful went crazy in that West Texas farmhouse.
