Sunny Side Cafe in Berkeley

Sunny Side Cafe in Berkeley, located at 2136 Oxford Street, packs a hearty, delicious breakfast into a small, cozy location nestled in across the street from the UC Berkeley campus. The cafe restaurant appears to be particularly small from the outside, but that appearance is deceiving – there is an entire mezzanine area above the ground floor that offers a great amount of extra seating. Still, the cafe is cozy and warm, although the small space combined with top quality means that Sunny Side is often filled and crowded, so its suggested to avoid peak brunch hours on the weekends to dodge the crowds.

This cafe, though, is worth the wait. The coffee comes from McLaughlin coffee roasters, a great local coffee supplier, and Sunny Side also offer fresh lemonade, teas, and more. Try the Arnold Palmer for a great fresh complement to a big breakfast. The house coffee is a Peru blend from McLaughlin, carrying a huge bold flavor yet also a smooth finish, a perfect way to finish out an easy morning meal. The food at Sunny Side Cafe, however, is the main attraction – the Alameda gets an incredible amount of attention in the customer reviews, but the rest of the breakfast specials, the omelettes (try the bacon avocado, or the roasted mushroom with garlic and tomato omelette!) and the lunch menu too is all well worth multiple visits.

The posted hours on the Yelp! page are from 8 to 3 on weekdays and 8.30 to 3 on the weekends. The interior is painted a pleasant, soft breakfast yellow and the walls and shelves are livened up with a simple decor of cooking and farming tools, checkered curtains, and the scene is completed with tall ceiling and wooden beams. Come out to the Sunny Side Cafe for the fantastic food, but stay for the homey atmosphere and the great service.
