Summer is here and it’s time to get off the couch and get outside. Here’s a few suggestions to make this summer safe, memorable, entertaining and fun.
Theme parks, vacations and family outings and all those summer crowds make it hard to keep track of your little ones – especially when they are on the go. For parents with little ones who haven’t memorized their parent’s phone numbers, SafetyTat has the perfect way to help. SafetyTat has a new line of beach themed safety tattoos that read, “If lost please call ______. Parents can order custom tattoos with their phone numbers. The tattoos are designed to be water and sweat proof and are made with latex free adhesive that is hypoallergenic and canb last up to three days. The tattoos can also be customized with different art including sea turtle, fish, seahorse, crab and shark. I served as the mom tester and I love the simplicity of the SafetyTat but appreciate its importance. I am planning on using them throughout this summer as well as on school field trips. STARS: *****
I don’t know about your kids but mine would spend all day in the pool or the ocean if I let them. With all that swimming, it’s important to protect those yes with a good pair of goggles. I suggest checking out Aqua Sphere Seal Kid 2 Swim Mask ($21.95) which was made specifically for kids. Available in multiple colors, the Aqua Sphere Seal Kid 2 Swim Mask offers 100 percent UVA/UVB sun protection and a 180 degree of the water. What I liked best was the easy release buckles which my four year old is able to adjust herself. STARS: ****
Summer at my house means entertaining guests and family members as well as hosting numerous play dates. What better way to add an element of entertainment than to add some music to the mix. Pure Jongo S3 Speakers are a great addition to indoor or outdoor entertaining. Sold separately ($199 each), the Jongo S3 Speakers are wireless and include Bluetooth and 360 degree sound. Equipped with 20 hours of listening, per charge, the speaker comes with rechargeable batteries…which was a favorite of my husband tester. Another feature he really liked was the Jongo S3’s LCD screen. A self proclaimed audiophile, my husband tester was sincerely impressed with the sound quality and output of the Jongo S3 Speakers – they boast four tweeters and an upward-firing subwoofer for a sound bass; and four audio profiles. The other half of my husband tester was impressed with the clean sleek design of the Jongo S3; and their kiddos love that they could play music outside while they played. STARS: *****
Since school is out, my kids have been staying up later then they typically do. So, I was more than happy to review Lumi Dough ($19.99). Lumi Dough comes in five glowing colors including clear, green, pink, purple, black and blue as well as a playmat, star cut outs and a non stick baking sheet. We opened our sample of Lumi Dough during an overnight play date with out of town friends and the four little girls went gaga over the stuff. There was plenty of Lumi Dough for all four girls to make three creations. And we just had to hold the creations up to a light for a few minutes and they were fully aglow. We decided to bake their creations the next morning to ensure they remained intact. A fun and creative way to spend your summer evenings, Lumi Dough is made of a unique silicon material that stretches yet still molds like clay without ever drying out. STARS: ****
The Y Fliker A1 Air ($99.99) is a super cool self-propelling three-wheeled scooter. My kid tester was able to catch on quickly and maneuver herself by simply moving her hips and legs from side-to-side. Her mom really liked the fact that the Y Fliker A1 Air is light-weight making easy to transport and its twist and stow folding system was also much appreciated. The scooter’s response hand brake took a little getting used to for my kid tester but eventually she got the gist. Designed for kids ages five or more, the Y Fliker A1 Air is available in pink or green and sold at Walmart stores and online at Target.com. STARS: ****
Hasbro has a bunch of fun summer toys. Two of my favorites are its Nerf-N- Sports Bash Ball ($12.99) and Nerf Super Soaker Hydrostorm Water Blaster ($19.99). My kid testers really love the Nerf N-Sports Bash Ball and use it on the grass and in the pool. Nerf’s Bash Ball has a hallowed Nerf foam core featuring easy to grip holes allowing users to easily kick, throw or pass. According to the company, kids can play dodge ball, handball, volleyball, freestyle soccer, kickball and more. Available in two colors, silver or navy, the Nerf N-Sports Bash Ball is available at most major toy retailers nationwide and on HasbroToyShop.com. STARS: ****
Want to cool off this summer? Then Nerf’s Super Soaker Hydrostorm Water Blaster ($19.99) is the most powerful motorized super soaker ever – which is what made this a huge hit with my kid tester. Kids don’t have to pump; they just pull the trigger to blast 25 ounces of water up to 30 feet. My kid tester had a blast facing off against her sister who was armed with her own Super Soaker. Their squeals of excitement and laughter elicit a five star rating. STARS: *****
Want to cool off this summer? The Port-A-Cool Cyclone which is available in models that cool either up to 500 sq ft or 700 sq ft) are effective in both arid to humid climates. Models are priced from $399 to $799. The company sent its Cyclone 2200 to be tested. The Cyclone 2200 can cool 500 square feet and works off evaporation to provide constant cool air and a noticeable temperature reduction – as much as 30 degrees according to the company. My Dad tester was a little shocked at the size of the Cyclone 2200 but was happy with its end result. The Port-A-Cool Cyclone 2200 works by using a pump to cool the water and create chilled air – the process uses less than eight cents for 12 hours of usage. The electricity costs were a huge plus to the Dad tester who was surprised to find out how efficient the Cyclone 2200 is. The Cyclone 2200 is for use in both indoor and outdoor spaces as well as warehouses and/or garages. The Cyclone 2200’s evaporative cooling is highly effective in dry and arid climates where the air is hot and the humidity is low. My Dad tester said he uses his in his garage on summer nights and even used it a few times when hosting a summer BBQ. The Port-A-Cool Cyclone 2200 is available for purchase at Home Depot. STARS: ****
