Brady Kiernan, in conjunction with RKB pictures debuts ‘Stuck Between Stations’ at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival in NYC, at the SVA Theatre 2 Beatrice. Thousands flocked to the theatre's opening night to see 2010’s IFP Narrative Lab Fellow, Brady Kiernan’s directorial debut.
Director and Co-Producer Brady Kiernan, Co-Writers Sam Rosen ('Four Boxes') and Nat Bennett (‘Therapy Rocks’) have all produced a great film of hope, reflection and human connection.
Co stars, Sam Rosen (Casper) and Zoë Lister-Jones (Rebecca) portray two distant yet connected characters whose contradictory lives collide one night at the legendary First Ave Night Club in Minneapolis, MN.
During the film, former school mates Casper, a soldier home on bereavement leave and Rebecca, a once promising grad student whose academic career hangs by a thread, take each other on a nocturnal whirlwind of meet ups, bar room brawls with ex marines, and unexpected reunions, through the picturesque streets of Minneapolis, MN.
At one point during the night, Casper attempts to break into David’s (Michael Imperioli) home, Rebecca’s ex lover and professor, to retrieve Rebecca’s laptop containing her dissertation that’s due, taken earlier by David’s wife Shelia (Nadia Dajani) after she discovers the affair.
Sam Rosen jokingly described his story of convincing Michael Imperioli to star in the film, “after waiting on Michael Imperioli’s table for 8 years at a restaurant in Tribeca, I finally got up enough nerve to ask him if he would be interested in starring in my film and he said, yes. The next day, just to re-confirm, I sent him the script, he read it and decided to join the cast!”
Award winning actor, Michael Imperioli (Sopranos & Detroit 187) and Josh Hartnett’s (The Black Dahlia) incisions into the film's story adds even more depth to this already captivating film.
Hartnett plays a brooding anti-war nomad who convinces Casper and Rebecca to cycle around the Minneapolis night with him and his cohorts eventually ending up at an indoor circus that’s reminiscent of a psychedelic Ringling Brothers.
Paddy (Hartnett) finally steals his moment to spout off obscenities at Casper (Rosen) about his reservations towards Casper’s willing participation in the Afghanistan war.
Michael Imperioli’s role successfully fills the gaps of Rebecca’s sordid story. He effortlessly maneuvers his way through a small yet complex and intricate part with complete Imperioli charisma. Imperioli stated, "I really liked the spirit of the film, that’s why I decided to take the role.”
Emerging artists, Sam Rosen and Zoë Lister- Jones both master their roles with confidence and authenticity. The on screen chemistry and developing intimacy of their characters one on one dialogue captivated their audience’s attention throughout the film.
To give the film a more romantic and intimate setting Kiernan decided to completely shoot the film at night. His reason for shooting on location in Minneapolis, MN was solely based on his being a Minneapolis native. Zoe Lister-Jones stated, “Working in Minneapolis was great!"
In addition, most of the cast and crew are natives of Minnesota, this factor also adds to the film's authentic Minnesota backdrop.
Casper and Rebecca’s nocturnal adventure eventually leads them to Casper’s deceased father’s backyard where all their night’s soul searching finally comes to a head and the two of them reluctantly begin to emotionally reveal themselves to one another.
The film is witty, human and hopeful. The film was produced by Todd Cobrey (‘The Dead Won’t Die’), Spencer Kiernan, Brady Kiernan and Sam Rosen.
Final screenings for ‘Stuck Between Stations’ during the Tribeca Film Festival will be playing at the AMC Loews Village 7, at 3rd Avenue & 11th Street, Thursday, April 28, 9:00PM.
