Tonight, Capcom is holding their Capcom Cup championships in California, crowning the top players for Street Fighter X Tekken 2013, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, and Super Street Fighter 4 AE 2012. Last year, Capcom went all out for the 25th Anniversary of their popular franchise game series, Street Fighter. In addition to hosting one of the biggest prize tournaments for fighting games, Capcom also released a slew of products to commemorate the event. One of the most expensive pieces they released was a special chess set made up of characters from the Street Fighter universe.
With an original asking price of $400, Capcom made this piece very exclusive by limiting it to only 5000 pieces. As you can see in the pictures on the slide show, the sets are individually numbered. Opening it up, you see a huge "Fight!" placard sitting on top. Under it, you see the glass chess board on top of the pewter chess pieces and a certificate from Capcom. On the top you have the "white" side featuring Ryu, Chun-Li, Guile, Blanka, Zangief and others from the "hero" side. The bottom has the "black" side featuring M. Bison, Vega, Balrog, Sagat, Juri Han, and the "villains".
The set itself it beautifully made, but is it worth the price tag? Probably not, unless you are a big Street Fighter fan. Even though it was a limited release, you may get lucky and find it on discount since it's been almost 2 years since it was made available.
