Recently I was looking online about driving and HIV/AIDS. Im talking about motor vehicles and the qualifications needed to pass a driving test. HIV can cause a mariad of problems for an infected individual with regards to general health and the ability to safely navigate a motor vehicle. AIDS can cause some optical problems which may not be picked up on a standard eye test. Eye test consist of looking at a chart and reading the letters. It may be possible to pass this but not be able to pass a driving test. Driving test consist of stopping properly, being able to see in different directions and the ability to respond quickly in various circumstances. AIDS can cause problems in these areas especially if a person is deemed disabled due to an opprtunistic infection. With this said it is difficult know if a person can safely operate a motor vehicle if they are disabled due to AIDS.
These type of issues seem to come up alot with me, I worry if Ill pass my next test in a year or if Ill even be around. The unbelievable difficulties and legal ramifications of AIDS can make life unbearable. It is an illness which robs slowly, health, self esteem and financial stability. It can make a person want to scream yell and curse at whoever or whatever is causing the problems. HIV can put people in unhealthy environments full of unexpected situations, unstable people seem to navigate towards another which further feeds dysfunctional situations. I have seen the good and bad, Ive lived in the suburbs and Ive lived in the ghetto. Ghettos are slow moving places which whittle people down little by little, the frustration often played out in violence, and impusive acts upon other people. This is where I see the most humour knowing what its like to live normally with a normal job, a house and a career, and now seeing the other side because of my illness. I find it humorous because I cant do anything about it. Ive lived and lost and have come full circle..
