Yoga students sometimes step on a corner, apologize and then ask, “Where’d you get that yoga mat?” One diehard yoga instructor didn’t believe it was really a yoga mat (way too cushy) walked over, picked up a corner, squeezed it and mumbled about it being thicker than most yoga mats.
Well, yes it is. It’s 6mm thick and 72” long, making it longer and more comfortable than standard yoga mats. This yogini usually alternates between three to four yoga mats, but has since retired the others in favor of the Stick-e yoga mat. The mat is reversible (black on one side, blue on the other) and they have now introduced a purple/black reversible mat.
The Stick-e mat has ridges so that it adheres to the floor with less slipping. While it usually has a great grip, on occasion it does roll up a bit and sometimes slides when doing fast sequences. Running it through the laundry (between a couple of towels) or washing it in a tub, usually helps and the detachable Stick-e yoga lasso strap that comes with it, can be used to hang the mat to air dry.
In addition to being used to assist with difficult poses and for stretches, once reattached onto a Velcro strip, the strap is adjustable and can be used to carry the mat.
Another nice feature are the alignment lines, which are great when moving through warrior and triangle poses.
The Stick-e Yoga Mat with Adjustable Yoga Lasso Strap has the suggested retail price of $49.95. It can be found in New York City at Paragon Sports, 867 Broadway. 800-961-3030. (Call for availability.) The colors available also seem to depend on the retailer. The purple mat can be found at Dick’s Sporting Goods (www.dickssportinggoods.com). Otherwise visit Stick-e.com to purchase or to find other stores.
