The Eagle landed swiftly , slickly, swooping into the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York, as the Steve Miller Band poured forth an eclectic and delectable evening of hits from the perennial talent, Steve Miller.
Hailing from the 60's with a knack for musical reinvention, this tunesmith is still muscling his way internationally with a varied, pure display of exceptional taste and form. Where to start? Without stretching or straining, Mr. Miller sparkled with gleaming versions of Living in the USA and Gangster of Love. A solid quintet backed him with Sonny Charles spelling Mr. Miller on vocals. A powerful vocalist in his own right, Mr. Charles provided a boost of raw soul and energy creating an aural net of emotion. All musicians mesh seamlessly giving Mr. Miller's songs a vitality and verve that engenders an electricity to groove by.
And groove you do to Abracadabra, Fly Like an Eagle, The Joker, and more. Speaking of energy, the band soars higher and higher as Mr. Miller's remarkably well preserved voice soothes and propels each song with an almost hypnotic quality.
The Capitol itself, as noted in previous reviews, is the perfect venue for showcasing premier talent in an intimate setting. Whether reserved seating or general admission on the main floor, sight lines are flawless with lots of room to dance, shuffle, or just stand still. The sound is absolutely clear with an original state of the art light show to augment songs visually. Put the Capitol Theatre as a must do in 2013. Upcoming shows include Leon Russell/Little Feat, Trey Anastasio, Pat Benatar, and Morrissey
