Steve Aoki and Datsik tear up the Fillmore

The Dim Mak Deadmeat tour plowed through Denver last week at the Fillmore with massive sound by Steve Aoki, Datsik, and Alvin Risk. They brought a semi truck full of sound, lights, and huge tracks with them.  It was a young crowd, and I got the feeling that most people were there to see Datsik, the legendary dubstep slam hit king.

The show was off to a great start with Alvin Risk who dropped some fun bangers, had a almost comical argyle sweater on, and a great stage presence.  He wasn’t phased when his gear quit right in the middle of a build and went on playing as soon as his gear would allow.

Next came up Datsik who played dubstep slammer after slammer for a crowd that turned into a mosh pit in front of him.  He seemed to be having a blast aside from having the stage lights blind him for the first part of his set.  His stage set up was a fun portable dj booth, along with special effect camera that reflected his actions so he had a larger than life projection behind him.

Datsik was followed by Steve Aoki, the legendary long-haired DJ producer with no face (if you’ve ever seen his logo).  His stage set up was a ridiculous nest of LEDs followed by side panels that spelled his name and were incredibly over the top.  He played a set of entirely his own music, which most producers should do more often than it actually happens at shows.  He played some of his newest music that was released the week before on his new label.

The sound at the Fillmore has its moments, and it doesn’t seem to be well designed for much above mid-levels and it painfully fuzzes out for anything that is bright, which unfortunately, was a lot of what Steve Aoki was playing.  All in all, the three producer/djs made for a great night and a grand event!  The variety of music played worked well together as Datsik and Arvin were well chosen to get the crowd in the door and get them riled up.
