Grindhouse cinema has been making a huge comeback over the years thanks to films like the Machete series. Some are not quite as over the top as others, but still manage to fit into that category. The latest Bounty Killer is right on the edge of being in the grindhouse genre and straight action flick, but the real question is that does it bring the best of either world to the finished feature?
Bounty Killer follows a world where corporations have taken over the government which led to corporate wars that laid waste to society as we know it. Now they issue death warrants for white collar criminals which are collected by the Bounty Killers who compete for body count, fame, and cash. Now they are rising up to end the plague of corporate greed by attempting to take down the CEO and giving the survivors retribution. This film is right on the edge of straight up action and grindhouse cinema. The film feels similar to The Road Warrior in the tone of the action and universe. The acting is a bit hokey at times, but that is part of the charm. The story is all over the place at times, but in a way that still works fairly well. The real star to this film is the action and there is plenty of it. They make sure to not hold back and go full out on the action making it the star of the film and highly entertaining to watch. Sure most of it is over the top and gory, but that is what makes it so fun.
This is one of those cheesy action films that you just sit back and let it happen while enjoying the ride. If you are expecting some intelligent action flick then you are watching the wrong film, but if you dig post-apocalyptic action fun with a cast featuring Beverly D’Angelo, Alexa Vega, Gary Busey, and Eve then this is the film for you.
Be sure to grab your copy when it hits shelves on October 29th.
