Stella restaurant in Floral Park, long island was founded 53 years ago by the Cerrone Family with their four daughters and one son. Stella ristorante began as a small pizzeria and within a few years grew into a highly successful and popular restaurant. Each member of the family is intimately involved in the everyday business of providing the finest quality italian cuisine to their patrons.
My wife and I have always heard about the wonderful food served at Stella's but in all honesty just never got around to dining at this charming old world restaurant. This past weekend we finally arrived at Stella Ristorante and enjoyed one of the best italian meals ever. The restaurant is located on Jericho turnpike on Floral Park's restaurant row.
After being seated in the main dining room on a large, comfortable leather banquet, we began our italian feast with a plate of assorted appetizers: pizza slices, a sausage roll (an italian version of an egg roll). bruschetta, and hot garlic bread. All delicious and the sausage roll simply awesome.
Our waiter suggested that we try an assortment of Stella's most popular specialty dishes as a way of sampling their fabulous food.
We began with an appetizer of rich and hearty veal paperdelle made with long flat homemade noodles in a broth of veal juices , mushrooms, and large pieces of veal. A meal in itself!
This was followed by a large bowl of beautifully prepared dark black mussels in a wine and garlic sauce. Evert mussel was sweet, petite, with a broth made to be feasted upon with large slices of thick italian bread.
We then sampled:
Chicken cappriciosa a large sized cutlet breaded, baked and absolutely delicious
Eggplant Parmegiana- Steaming hot thick luscious slices of eggplant baked with a rich coating of parmegiane cheese in a light and delicious homemade red sauce.
These dishes were accompanied by a Stella Caesar salad that was rich in olive oil and cheese, as well as an assortment of steamed broccoli, and cauliflower.
Each dish was explained, beautifully plated, and served by our energetic, and knowledgeable waiter.
It was now time to try one of Stella's favorite desserts- Gfogliata- Large triangular shaped pastry filled with a delightful thick sweet custard like cream, whipped cream and strawberries.Simply spectacular and a fitting sweet ending to an exquisitely perfect italian meal.
Before we left we had a chance to meet with Elsa, the hostess, and Enza- the chef and baker for the family. Both ladies were lovely, welcoming and gracious hosts.
Stella Ristorante is one of Nassau's finest italian restaurants as attested to by the fact that they have done a thriving business for the past 53 years. All the accolades they have received over the years are well deserved! This restaurant's food, service, and ambiance are superb.
