'Star Wars' is still great

Star Wars

Recently, the cast was announced for the upcoming “Star Wars” film, which will be the seventh in the series. May the force be with them! Some of the cast members from the 1977 original are returning, such as Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill. It is doubtful that any of them would have predicted just how profoundly their film by a rising director, George Lucas, would influence popular culture.

In “Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope,” young Luke Skywalker (played by Hamill) lives on a distant planet and is bored with his slow-paced agrarian life. His family gets two used droids: R2D2 and C-3P0. From them, he learns that Princess Leia (played by Fisher) is in danger and needs Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi (played by Alec Guinness) to rescue her. Eager to have a worthwhile adventure, Luke finds the re Obi-Wan. The wise elder statesman tells Luke that he will need his help. At first, he does not want to, but Luke eventually does agree to help. They hire Han Solo (played by Ford), an opportunistic pilot, who agrees to help them, for a fee.

“Star Wars” has a large cast of many memorable characters. It features one of the great screen villains in cinema history: Darth Vader. He is tall, muscular, and wears a voluminous black costume. He has a deep voice, which is supplied by esteemed actor James Earl Jones. Han is also a fun character. He is a cracker-jack pilot who is reluctant to put himself into really dangerous situations. Also, he has an incoherent but affable sidekick, Chewy, a wookie.

There are many solid action scenes in the film. Among the best is the final battle between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader. They are both skilled warriors.

This film is visually stunning. Han’s ship, the Millennium Falcon, is quite dirty inside. This helps the movie feel realistic.

“Star Wars” is an excellent start to a classic film franchise. The news of more “Star Wars” films from director J.J. Abrams is very exciting.
