St. Louis Attraction: The Book House, Inc (Photos)

The Book House, Inc, located at 9719 Manchester Road in Saint Louis, has been family owned and operated for over 25 years. They're located inside a beautiful Victorian house built in the 1800s. The Book House was voted Best of St. Louis and St. Louis A-List 2008, 2009 and 2010.

When you enter The Book House, you'll be greeted by the wonderful smell of ancient books - and Blake, the store cat. He is very friendly and seemed to enjoy being talked to when we were there.

The eclectic mix of nearly 400,000 rare, new, and used books are spread throughout the three floors of the Victorian home, literally floor to ceiling. If you're feeling brave, venture to the dungeon - also known as the Bargain Basement.

While planning your visit, make sure you carve out plenty of time to explore all three floors. Every subject you can imagine can be found at The Book House.

The Book House also ships worldwide, and has about 20% of their books listed online. A portion of their proceeds support Second Chapter Life Center for young adults with Developmental Disabilities in Saint Louis and the Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition.

I could easily spend the entire day inside The Book House. While the books aren't as organized as what you'd find at a library, that is half the fun of it. Each room has its own subject and section, so you can search through the types of books you like for hours. To say their book collection is extensive would be an understatement.

The Book House Hours:

Monday 12:00 to 7:00
Tuesday through Thursday: 10:30 - 7:00
Friday and Saturday 10:30 to 8:00
Sunday *CLOSED*
