A Very Competitive New Season for Dancing with The Stars
At The Theatre with Audrey Linden
Oh my God, are we in for some tough competition on DWTS! I already have my favorites. This is going to be a tough one as there are so many talented “dancers”. The highest score of 27 went to Derek Hough and Amber “More to Love” Riley of Glee with their dynamic Cha Cha Cha. Bruno declared that Amber was “the tigress of the season.” Amber said it is good for girls to see someone of her size moving this way. She grew up singing and wanting to dance but there was only enough money for singing. Well, Amber, you are certainly making up for lost time.” And you have moves, girl!
There were a couple of 24’s with my favorite, Corbin Bleu (“High School Musical”) and his partner, Karina Smirnoff who did a lovely contemporary. This was Karina’s first attempt, and she was nervous.
Tall and statuesque Elizabeth Berkley Lauren and her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy did a passionate contemporary dance with a score of 24,and Elizabeth, who is a new mother said she is overjoyed for this opportunity to reconnect to “what I love to do.”
Next was Jack Osbourne, with a 23, who you would not believe has M. S. He wanted to dance while he could. And, “Mama Bear, Sharon” was bursting with pride and tears as her son did some very nimble footwork in his foxtrot with Cheryl Burke. His dancing was “playful, joyful, and uplifting.”
Snooky, dubbed “the pocket rocket”by Bruno, from “Jersey Shore” and Sasha Farber’s Cha Cha Cha garnered a 23.
Christina Milian and Mark Ballis did a lovely contemporary and scored a 22. Another 22 went to Bryant Daugherty, a hottie and Peta Murgatroyd for their sexy Cha Cha Cha. Leah Remini (“King of Queens”) and Tony Dovolani scored a 21 for their elegant foxtrot.
My hero, Valerie Harper, at 73 and battling brain cancer, looked lovely in a long sparkling blue gown. She and handsome Tristan Mac Manus scored a 21 also. Valerie was a Radio City Music Hall dancer back in the days. She was a little stiff due to a bum knee. Kudos to Valerie. She is “living proof” that one need not accept a 3 month sentence. It has been 8 or 9 months since her incurable diagnosis.
Stand up comedy, red neck man, Bill Engvall and newbie DWTS dancer, Emma Slater did a Cha Cha Cha and ended up with an 18. They were followed by football Hall of Famer, Keyshawn Johnson and the lovely Sharna Burgess who also did a Cha Cha Cha and ended up with a 17 from the judges.
That leaves Bill Nye, “The Science Guy” who reminds me of Andy Dick, who did a clunky Cha Cha Cha with another newbie DWTS dancer, Tyne Stecklein. Len was a little harsh with his comments, “Well, it was painful when it happened and I was glad when it was over.” He has a HUGE fan base who stood and applauded. And you never know. Those fans can raise scores.
Watch out for Amber and Derek, Corbin Blue and Karina, Jack Osborne and Cheryl, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren and hunk Val as the top contenders.
The show does not air again on Tuesdays, so you will see who is eliminated next Monday. I am thinking it may be Bill Nye or Keyshawn Johnson.
Valerie will give them a run for their money once she hits her stride.
