We have arrived at the end of the Spartan Ops Journey and episode 10 didn’t disappoint. The cinematic were top notch as always and the epilogue left Halo fans wanting to know more. In Spartan Ops episode 10, The Elite Jul M’Dama activates Requiem’s self-destruct which will take it out of its suns orbit and cause it to enter the sun and burn up. It was a race against time as the UNSC Infinity was tethered to the planet by two powerful Forerunner artifacts inside the shield world. Once they were freed, the Infinity flees the resulting supernova. But that wasn’t all this week, 343 Industries included an epilogue cinematic in which Dr. Halsey swears revenge against the Office of Naval Intelligence for trying to kill her, and appears to be sided with the Covenant.
Now to the meat of the episode. The first mission Artifact brought us back to the Harvester. We once again had to clear it of Covenant and Promethean enemies. But unlike the last visit, there was a lot of Elite Warrior class with Fuel Rod Cannons in this mission. This made playing on legendary difficulty near-impossible in some parts. However, if your team broke through them, the rest was a cake walk.
In One Way was the title of mission two which had your team in search of the artifact that could free Infinity from the Planet. Fun encounters with Prometheans are to be had in this mission. However, the amount of button pressing makes it less fun.
Mission three called Seize The Power brought us back to the Apex site to steal a power core from a Covenant Lynch, a large flying troop transport. This was this week’s stand out mission. Lots of good classic Warthog vs. ghost action is to be had. You had to board and destroy a Lynch by grabbing the power core then escaping while the Lynch blew up. This was a great call back to when the Master Chief boarded a Lynch in the Campaign as he just barely escaped.
Mission 4, Out the Other included Lots of anti-vehicular combat and destroying forerunner artifacts. However, it felt a bit long and drawn out. And was this week’s low point for me. Mission 5, One Last Time brought back at harvester. Fighting covenant while trying to plug in the power source proved challenging. The high point was using the mining laser to carve out a cave.
