Sonic Sutra jams the Jazzhaus full for two sonorous sets + Previews!

The Jazzhaus enjoyed a full house last night for Sonic Sutra's double-set show. The dynamic psychedelic jams roared through the small venue, blasting the crowd with thrilling dance tunes that packed the dance floor. This epic concert included the return of Sonic Sutra's vocalist Courtney Rose Smith and the band's climactic rock filled the venue to the point that ladies were dancing on the bar to get some room.

Sonic Sutra has developed a deep, intricate sound that combines the harmony of their intrumentals, vocals as well as solos from every band member that come together to form long, fun dance tunes everyone enjoys. Last night a big, diverse crowd of fans and newcomers listened in awe as the band unleashed a supersonic boom of jam in two lengthy sets.

Starting around 10 p.m. the band rocked out their own tunes and cover songs while the Jazzhaus filled up. Before long every seat in the house was taken and the bar was lined with drinkers. When Sonic Sutra busted out their first Grateful Dead cover, fans could not resist the music and the dance floor began to shake. The psychedelic, progressive solos of Billy Wassung's guitar melted faces. The dirty, funky bass lines Jon Studtmann threw down set booties shaking. Blake Clemmer's fingers danced sweet melodies on his keys. Chad Brothers backed up Billy with harmonies and melodies on a second guitar. Matt Miner rocked out fast, fun beats on the drums all for a crowd that continued to fill the dance floor even after there was no room to spare.

By the time the band's second set reached its climax, the venue was so crowded there wasn't an inch to move on the dance floor, nor an empty seat in the place. Dancing girls clambered atop the bar to enjoy a little space and the loud, raucous music filled the air with energy. Even at 1:15 a.m. the crowd was not done partying, so the band abliged with a fantastic encore. There's no doubt Sonic Sutra is a party band. They will be playing Lawrence again next month, so don't miss the fun!
