Songbird, a short story by romance author P.L. Parker, published by the Cactus Rose Line of The Wild Rose Press, tells the story of Delilah, who, once upon a time was known as Emily, and grew up in a troubled home, forced into marriage. But her fears of what happened between her mother and father cloud her own vision of a happy ending. Surely her husband Brett will treat her exactly like her father treated her mother, she thinks. To escape that fate, she’s run away from all that and made a life for herself in a bustling western town, as a well-loved singer in a saloon, with no man to darken her door. That is, until the thing she fears the most happens, that thing being her husband Brett arrives and begs her to come back. He even makes his case before the crowded saloon, laying his heart out for all to see, promising before all that he loves her, and is willing to do anything it takes to get her home, and keep her—even let her live her own life. So long as she will remain his wife.
Will she give in to his pleading, and her own heart?
Ms. P.L. Parker did a fine job with this story, and had me interested to know whether or not Emily could forgive Brett, and run away with him!
Does she? Well, as I did, you’ll have to pick up this fine free read by P.L. Parker yourself to find out. If you’d like to do that, you can find it online at The Wild Rose Press, here. This one’s only available in e-book, not in Tampa stores unfortunately. Still, check it out. I’m sure if you love western romances, you’ll enjoy Songbird.
