Emcees Tek and Steele of Smif-N-Wessun, aka the Cocoa Brovaz, take a different course of action for the Born And Raised EP. Jamaican reggae influences every song of the album. The raps are typical gangsta fare, but the duo seem to express regret and frustration over the atrocities that plague the inner city. The most important thing to remember about this EP is that the Jamaican and reggae back drops found on this album honor and respect the original roots and origin of hip hop and rap music. In a rap era when the reggae and dancehall elements of hip hop have run their course, this is an important reminder and homage of where the music really came from.
