To escape the madness of midtown Manhattan, especially during the Holiday season stop by Michael's restaurant on West 55th Street located right around the corner from Rockefeller Center. Michael's is quiet and cozy and decorated beautifully for the Holidays. It's a nice respite from the bustling streets of midtown manhattan. The food also happens to be excellent.
Michael's serves contemporary American cuisine as well as a number of fusion dishes. The menu is broken down into small plates and large plates. The small plates are similar to appetizers or first courses and are typically meant for sharing and the large plates represent main courses. They also offer plenty of raw bar options, salads, pastas and pizzas. The pastas are available in small and large sizes as well.
Although everything on the menu, from the mushroom risotto to the smoked salmon pizza, is delicious the small plates are what really stand out on the menu. The duck confit sliders and the Korean steak tacos are incredible and a must try. The flavors are complex and the ingredients meld together perfectly in both the sliders and the tacos. It's hard to decide which one is better.
Dessert at Michael's is also quite good and the menu often changes to reflect what is in season. In the winter and over the holidays they offer a walnut tart with pear and blood orange syrup and an eggnog flavored creme brulee. They also offer classic items like apple cobbler with salted caramel ice cream and a cheese tasting.
