Skid Row plays Philly

By Alex Lloyd Gross

Skid Row, the band that brought you such classics as "18 and Life", " Youth Gone Wild" as well as "Slave To the Grind" was back in town this weekend, playing a show at the Whiskey Tango in the Northeast. And yes, the band played all of the above. Taking the stage just after midnight, they brought those songs, and many others to life.

Formed in the mid 1980's , some say that the band is not really Skid Row without Sebastian Bach.  Those people did not see what close to a thousand saw inside the Whiskey Tango.  Van Halen is not the same without David Lee Roth. However Sammy Hagar has proven himself up to the task when he fronted the band. The same can be said for Johnny Solinger's efforts with Skid Row.  Several founding and original members of Skid Row were on stage as well.

Scotti Hill,  Rachel Bolan and Dave "Snake" Sabo were busy doing what they do best. Hill, would walk to the edge of the stage and tease the crowd, tossing guitar picks  to fans and posing for photos. "I never met a camera I did not like, but I've met a couple that don't like me", joked Hill after the set.  Both Hill and Sabo look like they did when they toured with Bon Jovi back in the day. Rachel Bolan cut his hair and got rid of the chain that was attached to his ear and mouth.

Skid Row  knew that fans wanted to see and hear the older stuff, and for the most part that is what they stuck to. While "Ghost" and "New Generation"  was played, from their work done in this decade, most of the applause went for the older tracks.

The show at Whiskey Tango was just one of many put on by Bill Price who is working hard to bring headliners into the region to play at this club.  Opening  for Skid Row were Hangman's Cry , Beyond the Element and Sinners Saints, which during the rshow showed why they are chosen to open for bands such as Skid Row and LA Guns. They actually got called back for an encore, when the headliner was up next.

AMAZING night of old school rock n' roll.....Hangman & BTE did great, & Sinners Saints brought down the house as always, providing a great welcome for Skid Row. We've loved having all the bands on Philadelphia Night Out Radio & we'll be at many more shows to come!

Unbelievable performance by Sinners Saints - if you have not seen this hard-rocking, kick-ass band, you have missed the re-birth of Rock n Roll. To borrow an old quote - "I have seen the future of Rock N Roll, and its name is Sinners Saints"!

I saw Beyond The Element for the first time and instantly was hooked. I bought 4 cds and a t-shirt and hoodie. The other bands were goos but BTE stole the show. How those guys are local I'm not sure but since I live in Philly I'm not going to complain. These guys are the best kept secret around and they are going to blow up huge. And now I can say I saw them before they did!
