Skid Row Debut (Photos)

"Skid Row" is the debut album by the American heavy metal band of the same name. It was released in 1989 on Atlantic Records and produced by Michael Wagener. The line-up for the album was Sebastian Bach (vocals), Dave Sabo (guitar), Scotti Hill (guitar), Rachel Bolan (bass) and Rob Affuso (drums).

One of the first things that stands out on this album is the astounding vocals and impressive range provided by Sebastian Bach. His is truly one of those voices that suits many styles of music. Then you notice the thundering drums and brilliant guitar. At a time when most albums had a sameness to them, this one stood up and shouted, "Notice me!". Every song on the album is incredible.

The songs are varied in lyrical content but the music is just as hard-hitting as the next one. "Big Guns" starts the album off in a big way. With a bit of a heavy, bluesy feel to it, it is a metal anthem that will have you singing along at the top of your voice. If it's power ballads you want, "18 and Life" is the heavy and powerful story of Ricky, a suicidal young man who has seen and done far too much in his short life. There is nothing romantic or lovey about this one."Youth Gone Wild" is rebellion set to music. With an easily recognizable intro, it gets your blood pumping and makes you feel you are ready to conquer the world. "I Remember You" is a power ballad with passionate vocals. You truly feel the sentiment being portrayed. Although it is heavy, it still manages to speak to non metal fans as well.

Truly a standout album, "Skid Row" is something all rock and metal fans can enjoy. None of the songs have a dated feel, making them relevant to every generation. For a debut album, it has the feel of something put out by seasoned professionals, yet retains the hunger of a group of musicians performing for the love of performing.
