Sizzler, in my mind, is one of those restaurants that fit solidly into the category of neighborhood restaurants, at least the Sizzler in Covina does as it is located on the corner of Citrus and Cypress in a neighborhood shopping center. It’s been my favorite local buffet and steakhouse in our area of Southern California for years.
When we got to the Covina Sizzler a couple months ago, we found that they had a steak and lobster special. That made our decisions easy.
Fresh Brewed Iced Tea, $2.59
As I typically do, I started with ordering fresh brewed iced tea to accompany my meal. Sizzler’s tea was great. Moreover, the young woman who checked on us for fresh plates made sure to keep my glass refilled. She also delivered our specials when they were ready.
Steak & Lobster Special, $16.99
This dinner came with baked potato plus margarine, sour cream and chives and their standard garlic cheese bread, which is very cheesy while avoiding having too much garlic.
The little lobsters were deliciously sweet with firm meat, properly cooked. Sizzler’s steaks were excellent too. We both ordered them medium rare so that they had a nice grilled taste while still being juicy. As my favorite steak is the ribeye, I was especially delighted to discover the great flavor of the Sizzler steaks, fresh cut tri-tips.
Add Endless Salad Bar for just $3.99 with dinner
(You can add The Endless Salad Bar for $2.49 with lunch or as a standalone meal.)
Although they have monthly specials, sometimes we just go for their Endless Salad, Soup, Hot Bar & Dessert Bar. The Hot Bar includes a taco bar with taco meat, tacos and everything to fix your tacos. You’ll also find spaghetti and meat balls. I added the buffet to my dinner.
Among the things I found on the salad bar were broccoli salad with red onions, raisins and bacon bits, fresh spinach salad with almond slivers and Craisons plus a light dressing, and seafood salad with the artificial crab. With everything else to eat, I skipped the soup though normally I enjoy their vegetable soup and Sizzler’s chili.
We were fortunate to have a wonderfully helpful and friendly woman checking on our needs. Though I failed to write down her name, I recall that she has worked part-time for this restaurant for many years. Additionally, we found their booth spacious and comfortable.
This was a delightful meal at very reasonable prices, especially for a lobster and steak dinner. The Covina Sizzler is a keeper. On this visit, they earned five stars.
