Is global warming really happening? Every time Al Gore speaks in New York it seems like it’s the coldest day in centuries, probably caused by all the exhaust his private jet spews as he saves the world from global warming.
Brooklyn’s Sixpoint Brewing is doing its part in the race to save the world. For the cool climate it has produced Global Warmer. At 7%abv. you can avoid turning the heat too high on your thermostat. Its reddish amber color is capped by a thin off white head that lingers on top. I’s nose is filled with citrusy hops, especially grapefruit and lemon. The palate pretty much follows the nose with orange and pine needles in the background. The citrusy hops give this ale a long finish.
The Global Warmer with its hoppiness and higher alcohol make this a double IPA that definitely takes the winter chill off cold bones. It comes in a tall slim red can that looks like a canned energy drink. On the back of the can they quote the beginning of Robert Frost’s “Fire and Ice.” This beer was also conceived after Hurricane Sandy’s force and rain flooded their Brooklyn brewery. One cheeky note on the back of the can reads, “ extended refrigeration at retail magnifies beer’s carbon footprint, please enjoy as soon as possible.” Take that advice and drink some today!
