Silver Spun Yarn

"Silver Spun" is a 'Lana Mundi' yarn from the "Feel Good" yarn company. What makes it special is its fiber content. Yarn fiber is 87% combed cotton, 11% pure silver and 2% lycra. It comes in a drawstring bag that contains a 50 gr skein of 173 yds for $25. The bag is perfect for holding the project, markers, row counter and needles.

I took it for a test spin on size 4 (3.5mm) dpn. The yarn ply is comprised of four cotton white threads each spun with a very fine silver metallic thread. Two sets of cotton threads are spun together and these two threads are plyed again. The result is a natural looking thread with a very slight gray appearance.

At first glance, I thought the texture of the way it was spun, might create a problem of splitting threads when knitting. This was not the case. The yarn knitted up without any problems and with nice stitch definition. It is a very soft American made cotton. I tinked, I frogged and it didn't lose its freshness. The addition of the silver, gave it a bounce that cotton on its own doesn't have.

Why silver? Silver is anti-microbial (kills bacteria that causes odor) and thermal properties make it as warm as wool (vegetarian yarn). It would make beautiful socks (odor free) or a cuff. I am curious to see how the silver fiber color will change as it tarnishes over time.
