Just when you thought they had fallen astray, Chevelle returns with a vengeance! The band of brothers played to a sold out house at Amos Southend in Charlotte, SC on Thursday, March 14. The trio played to the packed house full of eager fans desperate to hear the favorites they’d come to love as well as newer songs paving their way to infamy. In rare form, front man Pete Loeffler accompanied by his brother Sam Loeffler and brother-in-law Dean Bernardini, played some newer songs like “Arise” and “Piñata” alongside Chevelle classics as requested by fans.
Some of the requests included old-school favorites such as “Vitamin R,” “Jars” (from the Bruce Willis movie “Surrogates” soundtrack), “Send the Pain Below,” and “Forfeit.” Pete claimed to not have played “Forfeit” in several months due to an earlier knee injury, but reintroduced the staple song on this night, complete with some stage prowling and jumps. Pete and the boys brought the house down in a riveting and soul-wrenching hour and a half set which astounded and captivated fans who devoured every minute of it.
The band put on a show that was unlike many had seen, in the way that fans that had seen them before claimed that Pete usually kept things a bit more mild than what was delivered at Amos that night. Opting to go the heavier route, the Loeffler clan performed some of their heaviest songs with Pete delivering more screams and shrills than some are used to seeing live. Add all of this to the elongated set list and the inclusion of the always loved fan-favorites “The Red” and “The Clincher” as encore/conclusion songs, and you have a performance for the record books!
