The iconic shape of the Sigg water bottle has been transformed into a sleek insulated thermos, tastefully transforming beverage temperature regulation into an art object. Unlike the industrial design of your grandfather’s thermos, the one he took on his fishing or hunting trips, the Sigg Thermo is all about style and panache. The uninterrupted lines are clean, the pure white color fresh as the driven snow and the functionality everything you’d expect from Swiss engineering.
My old glass lined thermos had worked well to hydrate and warm me on cold winter days, but met its downfall with one too many lobs onto the slate floor in my backpack after a day of skiing. I was looking for a functional replacement, like the kind construction workers carry in their lunch boxes, but the stylish Sigg thermos caught my eye. At first I thought it might be too flashy but then I thought, why not? Why shouldn’t practical, everyday items bring some flair to the lunchroom table at the ski lodge? I brought my one liter thermos home, filled it up with hot tea in the morning and admired its elegant form as I poured myself a warm drink at lunch time. I can be confident that the Sigg Thermo won’t break because it is devoid of glass, insulating via double-walled, vacuum insulation. Like the original Sigg water bottles, the plastic screw cap has a hole in the curved top where I can hook my finger through for easy carrying, placing the included cup on the bottom of the thermos. In my pack I put the cup over the screw top to protect it.
The Thermo bottles come in two sizes, 0.75 and 1.0 liter, while a mug style is available in 0.3 and 0.5 liter sizes. Mugs come with a tea filter accessory that can be used to hold loose leaves or a tea bag. The Thermo bottles come with a temperature resistant cup that can slide over the top or bottom. Designed and engineered in Switzerland, bottles are crafted from high quality 18/8 stainless steel and are free of BPA and phthalates.
The technical specifications state that the thermos will maintain hot or cold liquids effectively, keeping 95 degree C liquid warm for hours, 60 degrees after 24 hours to be exact, sitting in a 20 degree C room. At the other end of the spectrum it will keep a liquid of 4 degrees C cool, remaining at 10 degrees C after 24 hours. As with all insulating products, pre-warming or pre-chilling with hot or cold liquids for 10 minutes will help retain the desired temperature.
Sigg Thermo products represent an extension of the iconic Sigg bottle shape, now insulating liquids with style and grace, a tasteful addition to any nomadic picnic, whether skiing, camping or hiking.
