Jackie Chan has built a career out of delivering fun entertaining martial arts action like no other. While he is known for some pretty amusing turns in some of his films, he has also delivered some pretty powerful serious action films as well. Thanks to Shout Factory fans will get a chance to bring home two of arguably the best films of his career to Blu-ray and DVD on April 16 double feature featuring Police Story and Police Story 2.
Police Story follows the story a cop assigned to protect a witness whose testimony could bring down a drug lord. When she escapes from his protection the drug kingpin goes free and sets out to exact revenge against the cop that arrested him. When the cop is framed for murder he is on the run to find his witness and prove his innocence. This film is vintage classic Jackie Chan in every way. This film is the one that stepped up Chan’s game and set the standard for what he has become known for. The film delivers a great simple story filled with action and humor that has become synonymus with Chan’s films. Like with any of his films, thanks to this film the action is the focal point and delivers like no other film other than other Chan films. The action not only holds up but still exceeds almost anything else out there. It’s well choreographed, well-executed, and above all else real. You see these people doing their stunts for real and sets the film to a whole new standard. Police Story is one of those films that is a classic to the martial arts world and with good reason, but all because of the passion and genius that Chan brings to the film.
Police Story 2 follows the events in the first film, whereas the cop has now been demoted to traffic duty due to his unorthodox police work. But with the mobsters still set on bringing him down and a terrorist attack on the city he will be doing more than directing traffic. When the terrorists kidnap his girlfriend he must revert back to his unorthodox police work to rescue her and stop the terrorists. Much like the first film in the series, Jackie Chan returns to direct and deliver another explosive piece of action history. This film not only lives up the original, it steps the action and stunts up to another level to keep the fans satisfied and in awe of Chan’s abilities. The story maintains its simplistic nature filled with the action and humor, but has a faster pace and even more action than you could possibly hope for. The stunts and action are once again brilliantly executed and deliver some of the most memorable moments in film history.
If you are a fan of Jackie Chan and who isn’t then this is a must have collection for you. These are easily two of his best and most memorable films of his career and a must have for any martial arts fan.
