Shout Factory brings Phantasm II to Blu-ray

Shout Factory continues to deliver the classic horror films through their Scream Factory brand and show no sign of slowing down. What’s great about their releases is that they are from all different films in the horror genre, but most importantly some of the most memorable and entertaining. Their latest brings the sequel that brought the Tall Man back to terrorize more victims in Phantasm II on Blu-ray for the first time.

Phantasm II follows up the original film with Mike getting released from a psychiatric hospital and rejoining his old pal Reggie to attempt to stop the Tall Man once and for all. When Mike starts having visions of a beautiful girl, he must track her down before the Tall Man and not only save her, but also attempt to stop him and his minions from succeeding in their evil plan. While the Phantasm series is an acquired taste, it has garnered legions of loyal fans. The original delivers well for what it is, but this film defiantly steps it up to make a more entertaining film. The story is simple and pretty much just picks up from the previous film and even copies some of the same kills. Angus Scrimm is not all that great of an actor, but his eerie presence and strange way he delivers his dialogue. His lines are so basic, but his deep psychotic delivery makes them something memorable and iconic. There are plenty of great over the top gory kills featuring the famous silver spheres doing their thing. In addition the Tall Man’s strange Jawa like minions are both funny and a bit creepy, but still work enough while giving it a fun quality whether it was meant to or not. Coscarelli was one of the few directors to stick with his series through four films and hopefully the others will get this same release, but for the time being fans will just have to be happy with Scream Factory’s release of Phantasm II.

Any fan of this classic series will surely want to pick up this all-new high definition release to add their collection. As if the film wasn’t enough to get you excited, this collector’s edition also includes commentaries, trailers, new interviews with Director Don Coscarelli, Angus Scrimm and more. Don’t miss this getting your hands on this awesome release of the second entry in the cult classic series Phantasm.
