Shout Factory continues to deliver the classic horror films through their Scream Factory brand and show no sign of slowing down. What’s great about their releases is that they are from all different films in the horror genre, but most importantly some of the most memorable and entertaining. From Beyond follows a group of scientists working on an experiment in hopes to open the human mind to higher dimensions. When the test succeeds they unwittingly releases the terrible life forms that are unknowingly floating around us at all time. This is one of those classic films that is so over the top it works brilliantly and is a lot of fun. Jeffrey Combs chews up the scenery like only he can throughout this entire movie. His character continues to evolve to different levels and thanks to his insane performance works through them all. The rest of the cast do a fine job to help bring everything together, but it’s thanks to Combs that keeps it working. The story is just simple enough to keep it moving, but still manages to toss in some various twists here and there. The real star and thing that makes this film work so great is the creatures and effects themselves. Much like every other film during this time, this 1986 classic used practical effects to deliver some amazingly insane creatures and gore making this movie easily one of the most stand out of the sci-fi horror of its time.
