Pioneertown, California was previously an old film set that was left standing by the film production company. It is now a real town, with an active Post Office that has a great resturant and bar called Pappy & Harriet's. Musician's from all over the globe have played here, from Gram Parson's to The Dandy Warhols, to the local Saturday night country players, Shadow Mountain Band.
Shadow Mountain Band began as a Sunday evening jam session eight years ago and hasn't stopped gigging since. After a large local following began to come in to hear the group, the establishment booked them as their Saturday night house band. Now as the group has the same players every week and has settled down into a groove, leader of the pack, Steve Lester has a great set going. This country/folk/western group really delivers the desert vibe in a way that is authentic.
The band is so entrenched in local musicianship, former Angeleno Gar Robertson's Red Barn Recorders is a full on studio rehabbed from a barn which services bands needing a break from the LA chaos. Lester himself used to be a player with Gram Parson's and still tours playing his own brand of inspiring solo music. Shadow Mountain band at Pappy & Harriet's delivers the full musical desert experience with some amazing, affordable grub. Get on your boots and roll over to check them out!
