Shack Meister Ale

I finally made it to Shake Shack in Coral Gables across from the University of Miami. I was looking forward to trying the burgers here after all the hype about how good they are. The burger was fine, as were the fries, I prefer Rok Burger where I can get a burger cooked to temperature, but Shake Shacks burger was satisfying and tasty.
However I am not here to review a restaurant but a beer brewed specially for the restaurant. Their Shack Meister Ale brewed by the Brooklyn Brewery exclusively for Shake Shack. I was surprised to see a burger joint that has beer brewed just for its own establishment that is great attention to detail. Burgers and beer is a great combo after all.
The Shack Meister Ale pours a deep golden yellow with a white creamy head. It has a rich malty and hoppy nose which gets the mouth watering. It has some citrus and yeasty flavors with malt and a short slightly hoppy finish. While the taste is ok it is not a satisfying beer. It leaves you wanting more; it has some sweet notes but lacks hops to round out the palate. Coming from Brooklyn Brewery, one of my favorites I’m surprised there isn’t a little more going on in the glass. Maybe it is just meant to be a middle of the road beer that won’t thrill or offend, just a decent beer to go with a good honest burger. Shake Shack does offer other beers on tap and for around $5 is a good deal, I also like the fact they offer beers in pitchers to please without having to keep getting up and ordering another beer.
