Now it is time to step outside my normal reading choices and try something a little different so I decided to read “Sexy beast 1” by Kate Douglas. Now, I have “Sexy beast” parts one through five on my reader so I thought this would be a good choice as it will lead me to continue on the series. A note about the series: this is a series of supernatural erotica books. So, supernatural erotica (or erotica in general) is not really my thing but you never know unless you try.
The story opens with Alexandria, known as Xandri, escaping from her car. She had driven off the road during a snowstorm and down a hill. Now she must get back to the road but she blacks out. She has a strange, erotic dream about a man who was not completely human. The only thing is, the dream may have been more than just a dream.
The next day, Xandri is walking along the road and is picked up by a man that she recognizes as the man from her dreams. They go back to his place and she learns that he is Stefan, a magician who had disappeared five years earlier. He had been turned into a wolf/human hybrid due to his own hubris and had fallen into despair. Xandri loves him in spite of his being part world and the two spend the next couple weeks having the best sex of their lives before deciding to find the sorcerer that transformed Stefan and trying to get him changed back to being fully human.
“Sexy beast 1” did not really entertain me but, as stated earlier, I am not a fan of the genre. Looking at the book from a non-content perspective, I thought that the writing was shaky at times and the descriptions of the sex seemed forced as well. The dialogue also seemed a bit too formal and not quite realistic. I saw some positive reviews for this book and the series of novellas in general online (yes, I do some research on every book I review) so this may be par for the course in the genre. I will read the rest of the series and pass my thoughts along as I get to them.
