Seven Days in Utopia with Robert Duvall, Lucas Black, Deborah Ann Woll on DVD

“Life is never the same once you’ve been to Utopia.”

Having just appeared in "Get Low" together in 2010, actors Robert Duvall and Lucas Black join Deborah Ann Woll and Melissa Leo for this inspirational 2011 sports drama, releasing just in time for the holiday shopping season.

"Seven Days in Utopia" is a movie about golf and the things that matter more, based upon the 2009 book "Golf's Sacred Journey: Seven Days at the Links of Utopia" by Dr. David Lamar Cook.

The movie follows the career of young golfer Luke Chisholm who has just had a very public meltdown on the golf course and who finds himself in the small town of Utopia, TX after a breakdown on the road. There he meets Johnny Crawford who has built a golf course out in the middle of nowhere and who offeres to help Chisholm get his game back.

Crawford teaches Chisholm several lessons in life that are parallels to the Christian walk.  While the message is mildly muddled in places, overall the story is good, the acting substantial, and the entertainment value solid. The movie is family-friendly with strong values, and I would recommend it as a Christmas gift for the golfer or sports lover in your family.

"Seven Days in Utopia" will be available on DVD on Nov. 29, 2011. The "Seven Days in Utopia"DVD includes three bonus features:

  • Beyond the Game – A look at finding the “sweet spot” in golf . . . and life
  • PGA Certified – PGA golfers on the quality of play depicted in the film
  • Who’s Your Johnny? – Professional athletes, sports commentators, actors and writers on the importance of mentors in their lives
