Set Sail: 'Hey!' (2012)

On their Bandcamp page, the band Set Sail doesn't go into some lengthy description of how awesome they are (as many bands like to inform us), rather they sum themselves up in two words: "good vibes". Listening to their EP I have only two words: "No kidding!".

Okay I guess I have to write more. The collection of four songs on this EP are an ode to sun soaked summer days, and good times. The energy always seems barely contained within the production... the singer urgently delivers his lines, surprise synth and violin parts spark up at times to quickly fall, other times to sustain. The whole sound is quite enjoyable and just puts you in a good mood.

If the first three songs could accurately be described as a sunny day, then the final and title track takes us briefly through the melancholy of the twilight, then transitions into the "dark night"... revealing just as much fun and wonder as the day had to offer.

Good vibes indeed.
