The Washington Harbour in Georgetown is comparable to walking on the docks next to the ocean in Florida. With boats, outside dining, and plenty of people milling around, you truly feel like you are on vacation. Sequoia, located close to the entrance of the Harbour definitely keeps with the vacation theme. Once you walk up the flight of stairs, the beautiful white and blue décor truly is breathtaking and relaxing. With crisp white table cloths, to lights hanging above from the tall ceilings, the inside of the restaurant is only the beginning! Ample outdoor dining is available, the tables strategically sitting beneath ginormous blue umbrellas feels welcoming and relaxing.
Prompt and friendly service with help through the menu made selecting appetizers and entrees considerably easier. Cocktails came out decorative and delicious along with the Calamari ($12) that was breaded and served with a tasty chipotle aioli dipping sauce. The Hibiscus Tomato Gazpacho Soup ($8) was flavorful, with hints of fennel and mango, it was refreshing and had a slight bite at the end of each spoonful; very summer appropriate.
Once the entrees came, the table was ready! The entrée portion of the Rare Ahi Tuna Nicoise Salad ($20) with an herb vinaigrette was not only eye catching but palette pleasing. Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass ($32) was beautifully plated, flavorful and the fish was prepared to perfection. The saffron burre blanc was a favored flavor on the dish that flattered the fish.
Service was good throughout the night, servers started walking around closing all the table umbrellas, and it seemed to be a nuisance to several diners since many had to move to successfully shut them. With a less than successful shutting of the umbrella that resulted in heads being hit and spilled drinks, perhaps the closing of the umbrellas should be gradual and the servers should wait until a table is cleared of diners, not to disturb the ambiance.
Once the sun had set, the string lights all over the trees lit up and created a new atmosphere that was equally enjoyable as the entering experience.
In the end, Sequoia is a great restaurant, with so many choices that will cater to any palate. It’s a great place to sit and enjoy the summer weather, as long as the umbrellas stay up!
