The Seeker Sauvignon Blanc

If you're a seasonal wine drinker then you've been consuming a lot of red wine recently. This winter in the DMV has dragged on quite a bit and it's safe to say we're all through with it. Bring on the warmer weather and white wines! Thankfully the weather gods are working their magic and this weekend in the area should be quite nice. Time to break out some white wine!

Sauvignon Blancs are one of the white wines that has become very popular. You'd think Chardonnay would be every white wine drinkers "go to", but not everyone is in love with that grape. Some folks just can't stomach that creamy, buttery, oaky goodness that is SOME Chardonnays. There are plenty of Chards that are have tropical fruit characteristics as well as some earthy ones. Which is apparently what a lot of white wine drinkers are looking for. That brings us to Sauvignon Blancs. Depending on the region, Sauv Blancs vary in acidity and flavors. For example, in France, Sauv Blancs based on the region (or "terroir") vary in flavors. The Loire is more of a gravel soil so that produces spicy, floral earthy Sauv Blancs, while Bordeaux produces more fruit forward wines. New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs exhibit earthy, grassy, straw and grapefruit aromas/flavors with a nice side of acidity.

One very intriguing Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand is The Seeker. This wine is a great example of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. The first impression of this wine is lime zest and passionfruit on the nose. Grapefruit and green herbs with a touch of grass on the palate. If you don't like acidic wine, than perhaps this won't be a winner. Although, if you like Sauv Blancs the acidity probably doesn't bother you! This is a fresh wine. Crisp and flavorful and perfect for those spring/summer nights! So bring on the warm weather!
