What a blast! But, if you don’t like great food, Zydeco music and dancing your feet off, I’d give it a pass.
This past Saturday, the Rotarians of Sebastopol staged their 18th annual Cajun Festival as a fundraiser for their local and international philanthropic programs.
The day was Hot! Hot! Hot! Made that cold brew or Hurricane all the better, and of course a cold beer was just the thing to send your plate of sizzling gumbo on it’s way. Gumbo, of course – great stuff. But there’s more to authentic Cajun food than gumbo. You could also wrap your lips around an alligator sausage, a shrimp po-boy, BBQ, crayfish etouffee, or just a big pile of boiled crayfish accompanied by tiny red new potatoes and corn on the cob. Still got a corner that isn’t quite filled? Well top things off with a sweet, delicate Beignet. Oh yes, and what’s summer without watermelon?
And hey! After all those calories you need to work some of them off. No Problem. You could dance them away to some great Zydeco music; all day long, culminating with Sunpie Barnes and the Louisiana Sunspots, playing Zydeco as it was truly meant to be.
The dance floor literally did jump as 100 plus people joyously danced, jumped, jiggled, jaggled, wobbled and wove to the animated high energy performance of pure joy.
If you missed it this year make sure you correct this mistake next year. It’s a grand day of celebration, money well spent AND you are helping the Rotarians alleviate poverty and suffering both at home and abroad. How often can you thoroughly indulge yourself and feel damn good about it?
