Scratch French Cafe review

About four years ago, I walked into this little bakery, Scratch, which was located next to a Subway in a Fry's shopping center in Scottsdale. It was kind of a random location, but I had to check it out. Not a huge space, the menu mostly included just French pastries and desserts in a case. That wasn't really my thing at the time, and honestly, I have become a much bigger foodie over the years since then. Well, let me tell you, it has blossomed into something beyond my imagination. I hadn't been back to the place since, but have been hearing good things about it. Ya see, people always ask me if I have been here or there, and ask for my opinion, or where to go. So when being asked a couple times about Scratch, I had to go see for myself what all the hype was about, because I only remember a bakery.

As I approached the entrance, I could already see that the inside has been completely redone and decorated. They have turned it into a full cafe with tables, chairs and wall benches. The walls are covered with mirrors and framed magazine picture, taken by one of the owners, Duc Liao, who apparently is a famous photographer from Paris. His wife, Noelle, and he met when she was modeling for him one time. Cute, right? Anyway, not to get off track, there was a counter with a full menu behind it where you can order and sit, or just sit and have a menu brought to you.

I was super excited about the menu. I had to review it several times in order to narrow down my choice, cuz I wanted a lot. I settled with the spinach and goat cheese quiche, which comes with a small side salad and fresh hash browns (pictured above), all for just $9.25. It literally melted in my mouth with each creamy bite. The crust was perfect, and even the hash browns were excellent, which I don't typically eat.

Other menu items include croissants, omelettes, crepes, eggs Benedict, French toast, and more...and that's just breakfast. They are also open for lunch. Their lunch menu includes several different sandwiches, salads, burgers and soups - all with a French flair of course. Check out the menu here for yourself. You too won't be able to resist a visit.

The next time you are looking for a great breakfast and/or lunch spot, and you are driving near Indian School and Miller Road in Scottsdale, definitely stop by Scratch French Cafe...you will be delighted you did. They also plan to open one in Phoenix soon!
