Schwindy's indie music spotlight: The Apemen

When you think about surf music, there are a lot of different avenues. There is the surf music that is perfect for driving to the beach, the surf music that is perfect for a secluded beach lit by tiki torches. And then there is surf music like The Apemen.

This band specializes in turbo-surf deluxe. If you listen to just one song, you'll realize why that is an accurate descriptor. The Apemen play songs that are all about tempo. Essentially what this band does is to take surf music and up the tempo until you feel like you're keeping up just listening to it. Seriously, just listening to "Intoxica" might be enough to get you to break a sweat. And that is just one example. "Pogo a Gogo" is another pretty good example of how this band tries to get you to keep up.

Double Crown Records has released 7+ Inches of Love, a remastering of 7 Inches of Love with some bonus songs, unreleased tracks, and live tracks. If you like surf music, this is definitely a good one to add to your collection.
