Sam Page describes his music as guitar-driven pop/rock. It certainly is an accurate description from the lead track "I Don't Want To Think about Her Anymore." This song has some catchy guitar hooks that bring Matthew Sweet to mind.
Oh, and if it's catchy guitar hooks you want, check out the song "Take It Easy." No, it's not a cover of the tune by The Eagles (thank goodness for that). This is a song that is almost guaranteed to get stuck in your head.
The second song on the album ("Hold On") reminds me of another indie rock hero: specifically J Mascis. The guitar sound is reminiscent of Dinosaur Jr, only a little more poppy and the vocals have a definite similarity to J Mascis.
The most memorable song on the album is "Pheromones." The best way I can think to describe this song is that it sounds like a Schoolhouse Rock song about how sexual attraction works. In fact, if there were a Schoolhouse Rock song about how sexual attraction works (weird to think about, I know), this would have been the version on the Schoolhouse Rock Rocks! compilation in the mid-90s.
This is an album filled with catchy tunes that are very well done. If you like a singer-songwriter that can rock, check out this album by Sam Page.
